Post treatment instructions

Dental Extraction

  • As a local anaesthesia was used, Please avoid chewing until your numb feeling has completely gone away
  • Bite on the gauze pad / cotton for 30 minutes & then discard
  • Avoid changing the pack, rinsing or forceful spitting
  • NO SMOKING OR ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES for one week
  • Don't use straw for drinking
  • No eating / drinking for one hour. Avoid hot / spice / coarse food. Eat well cooked soft / semi-solid for 24 hours
  • Pain is expected. Take your medications as prescribed. If severe( in- tolerable) pain is present after 1hr of taking the medications, please call and come to our office
  • Swelling is to be expected and is NO CAUSE FOR ALARM. Apply icepack from outside of face. NO HOT / WARM PACKS
  • All extracted teeth except your wisdom teeth must be replaced with a restoration ( like implant, bridge etc)
  • If sutures were placed. You can comeback after 7-8 days for suture removal
  • You can Brush and rinse the next day
  • Visit us every 6 months for a checkup and scaling

Lingual braces

  • The first thing you will notice is that your upper and lower teeth are not biting the way they used to be. It is due to the cement kept on the teeth
  • There is a temporary disturbance in your speech which will resolve itself with a week or two
  • If any piece of the braces come out, please keep it in a small zip lock cover and contact the dental office at the earliest
  • Do not take any sticky foods, chewing gum and no aerated drinks either
  • Brush at least thrice daily with an orthodontic tooth brush. Brushing before night being compulsory
  • Please keep up your appointments and always call dental office before you come
  • Please use fluoride mouth wash according to Doctor's instructions

Bridge / Crown

When and what can I eat?

If a local anaesthetic was used during your procedure, please avoid chewing until the numb feeling has completely gone away. Avoid eating for at least one hour after the bridge has been fixed in order to let the cement completely set.
If your front teeth are restored with a bridge, avoid biting on hard food or objects using your front teeth ALWAYS. (Like for example shredding a sugarcane or biting in to an apple and mango etc.) Keep in mind you do have a restoration but feel free to use your Crown/Bridge as you would your natural teeth.

Can I brush and floss?

You can brush and floss the crowned teeth like your natural teeth. As an extra care, you need to have professional cleaning(scaling) every six months.

What if there is discomfort?

You may experience some mild discomfort due to the fixing procedure which should settle within one / two hours after fixing. If for any reason, your bite does not feel even / balanced please call to come in for an adjustment at your earliest convenience.

What if the bridge becomes loose?

If for any reason the bridge becomes loose or comes out, please bring it to our dental office at the earliest. Most of the times the old bridge can be cemented back.

Bleaching

  • The first 48 hours, following our in-office professional whitening is vital to the success of the treatment
  • During this period your teeth are dehydrated and more susceptible to re-staining form dark / acidic food and beverages
  • It is best to avoid the following for 48 hours after your last bleaching appointment
    • Tea
    • Coffee
    • Aerated beverages
    • Tobacco products
    • Alcoholic beverages
    • Citric juices
    • Pickles
  • A good rule to follow is if something could stain a white shirt, It could re-stain your teeth
  • Visit us every 6 months for a checkup and cleaning
  • Whitening touch-ups / Bleaching booster has to be done once in a year

Tooth coloured fillings

  • If a local anaesthetic was used during the procedure - please avoid chewing until the numb feeling has completely gone away
  • Avoid aerated beverages and citric juice for twenty four hours after the filling is done
  • You can eat and drink immediately after the filling
  • Brush and floss normally
  • If for any reason your bite does not feel even / balanced please call to come in for a adjustment at your earliest convenience
  • Have your teeth checked every 6 months

Scaling

  • If a local anaesthetic was used during your procedure, please avoid chewing until the numb feeling has completely gone away. Avoid eating for at least one hour after the bridge has been fixed in order to let the cement completely set
  • Avoid consuming alcoholic beverages; hot/spicy food until your gums are healthy
  • The first time you brush after treatment brush gently. Floss the following day. Gradually return to normal brushing and flossing habits
  • If any medication was prescribed take as directed
  • Please use the tooth brush as recommended by your dentist
  • Change your tooth brush every 3 months
  • Use your mouth wash and gum paint as advised
  • In case food is getting stuck in-between your teeth, use interdentally brush. Do not use safety pin or tooth pick to remove it
  • For teeth to look whiter and brighter, you can get dental bleaching done
  • Brush twice daily! Have a fresh breath always! visit us every 6 months for a checkup and cleaning
